PANCHTHAR, Dec 29 - The Limbuban State Council (LSC), which has been agitating for the right to self-determination and ethnic autonomy in eastern Nepal, has formally split. The LSC split as differences among its members deepened over the issue of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections and over forming a working alliance with other agitating groups demanding autonomous regions based on ethnicity.
The LSC split formally on Friday as general secretary Misekhang Thamsuhang and central member Kumar Lingden of the dissident faction called a meeting of the central working committee at Birtamod and expelled Sanjuhang Palungwa and Phogohang Banem, the chairman and general secretary respectively of the establishment group, from the organization. The central committee meeting also appointed Lingden as chairman of the organization and Thamsuhang as general secretary.
Earlier, the establishment faction had taken action against some LSC members claiming they had defamed the organization.
Thansuhang said that the majority of the central committee members decided to oust chairman Palungwa and general secretary Banem along with two other central members.
However, general secretary Phogohang of the establishment group claimed that the decision taken by the dissident group is meaningless as only 14 of the 64 central members were present at the meeting.
